Gratefulness is appreciating and showing love for the things we’ve done or received. We can find countless reasons to be grateful in all walks of life. It might be for something as simple as the ability to walk, becoming a successful businessman or seeing the world as it is. Practising gratitude daily allows us to appreciate the present moment and the blessings that surround us.

One of the purest forms of gratitude I practice every day is thanking the universe for my body—the legs that allow me to walk, the arms that enable me to hold the ones I love, the eyes that show me the beauty of the world, and the ears that help me listen to the voices of those around me. These simple things remind me that gratefulness begins with recognizing what we often take for granted.

Gratitude is something we can all learn. Whether it’s thanking the universe for an amazing and successful life or being grateful for the opportunity to see our family every day, practising gratefulness from within can transform our outlook on life. There’s no right or wrong way to do it—as long as we make it a daily habit, our souls will slowly begin to heal.

One practice that has helped me deepen my sense of gratitude is meditation. Meditation clears the mind of distractions and unnecessary thoughts, allowing us to focus fully on the present. Through regular meditation, we can train our minds to focus on abundance rather than scarcity. When we learn to focus on the blessings we have, rather than what we feel we lack, we naturally cultivate a sense of gratitude from within.

Once we become in tune with this part of our soul, we begin to appreciate every aspect of life. Even challenges can become something to be grateful for because they help us grow. Instead of looking at life’s difficulties in a negative light, we can ask ourselves, “What has this taught me?”

For example, when I ended a long-term relationship, I could have focused on the time I felt was “wasted.” But instead, I chose to see it as eight wonderful years spent with someone who helped me grow into a better person. This shift in perception—choosing to be grateful for the journey rather than regretting the outcome—has made all the difference in my life. It’s all about perspective. If we can approach life with a positive mindset, we’ll find that even failures can be seen as opportunities to grow.

It’s important to remember that gratitude isn’t just for the good times; it can be most transformative during the hardest moments. When we face struggles, it might seem impossible to be grateful, but it’s in these times that practising gratitude can be the most powerful. By focusing on what we still have—our health, the support of friends, or even just the inner strength to keep going—we can use gratitude to guide us through the darkest moments.

Science even supports this idea. Studies have shown that practising gratitude can improve mental health, lower stress levels, and strengthen relationships. When we focus on the positives in our lives, we begin to rewire our brains to become more optimistic, resilient, and empathetic. Gratitude has the power to transform not just our outlook but our overall well-being.

Another important aspect of gratitude is kindness. One of the ways I express gratitude is through acts of kindness toward others. I was blessed to have a family that instilled in me the importance of being selfless from a young age. I’ve always believed in the power of giving back to the world. Helping others—whether it’s assisting an elderly person with their groceries, giving up your seat for someone in need, or letting another driver pass on the road—are small gestures that create a ripple effect of positivity. One of my favourite ways to give back is by donating to a charity of my choice every week, supporting those who need financial help more than I do.

These daily acts of kindness not only make the world a better place but also bring us a deep sense of fulfilment and gratitude. When we give, we realize how much we truly have to offer, and our souls become filled with a sense of peace and contentment.

This is just the beginning of my story, and I look forward to sharing more with the world in the future. I truly believe that practising gratitude can evolve our souls day by day.

“Gratitude bestows reverence, allowing us to encounter everyday epiphanies, those transcendent moments of awe that change forever how we experience life and the world.” – John Milton
